BSI Friluft - Skåla, 1848 m straight up 9-11. september

Date: 9-11. september Grading: 3 boots, going in steep and exposed terrain! Max participants: 8 Join us on a spectacular trip to Skåla in Loen, Norway’s longest uphill climb Leave your comfort zone and join a safe hike up the steep mountain side where the reward is an amazing panorama view of Loen and the mountains towards Jostedalsbreen. This tour shows some of Western Norways most beautiful scenery with high mountain terrain and cosy cabins! Friday we are leaving early from Bergen to Loen (5 hour drive) and planning for a mid day hike up to Skåla, make a joint dinner and spend the night at Skålabu.

Saturday we will set off early, hike back down to the car and drive to Loen where we are preparing a 2h climb Via Ferrata to the top Hoven and enjoy a cosy meal while enjoying the amazing panorama view. We will then walk back down to the car and drive to the camping spot where we will stay overnight in a cabin close to Lovatnet in the heart of Loen with a view Instagram worthy.

Sunday - we will set off early and plan to take a hike up the beautiful Eggenipa on route home to Bergen if we have energy left. Arrival back in Bergen late Sunday evening.

Requirements for participants: Apart from the equipment, you need to have: * Capacity to do a steep and long hike, as well as carrying your own food, drink and equipment * You need to be a member of BSI. See link further down to find information about signing up.

Compulsory trip meeting Wednesday 7th September: It is mandatory (!) to participate in the trip meeting on Wednesday 07. september at 17.30. The meeting will find place at the cafeteria 1st floor in Natural Science Building (Allégaten 41)

Equipment * Proper hiking boots * Appropriate outdoor clothing for being in alpine mountain terrain (no jeans and cotton (!). * Waterproof clothes (water- and windproof jacket and trousers) * Via ferrata equipment: climbing harness, helmet, via feratta set (can be rented in Loen) * Rubber gloves suitable for climbing Via Faratta (can be rented in Loen) * Hat, mittens and scarf (wool is recommended) * Backpack with space for your own and common equipment (food and safety equipment) * Sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner and mat. * Headlamp * Water bottle, cutlery and something to eat from * Personal things (knife, sunglasses, sunscreen, breakfast + lunch, book, camera, etc) * Sufficient food for a full weekend of hiking (3 days)

The trip itself is free, but everyone must pay their share of transportation and accommodation.

Estimated costs (pr person) in total: NOK 1650 Transportation by shared van, Bergen-Loen: NOK 500 Accommodation, 2 days (Skålabu and Camping): NOK 450 Rented equipment for Via Faratta at Loen Skylift: NOK 460 Route pass (Via Faratta): NOK 200

If you need to rent any equipment from BSI, this will be an extra cost for you. Equipment can be rented on Wednesday after the trip meeting, see link below.
