[Corpora-List] Open position for a Researcher in the field of Natural Language Processing applied to the legal and administrative domain

Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) is opening a new position in the Digital Humanities (DH) Research Unit, looking for a Researcher in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) applied to the legal and administrative domain. The candidate will join the activities of the DH group aimed at developing tools to classify and extract information from large amounts of data in the above domains.

The DH Research Unit investigates methods and systems aimed at applying NLP to humanities and social sciences problems. The main objective of DH Research Unit is the extraction and analysis of textual information from non-standard multilingual data to address societal issues. We work with historical archives, social media data, domain-specific and non standard language. We are interested in multilingualism and low-resource languages, and are fond of contributing to the Italian NLP community.

The candidate is expected to:

• Participate in the SCAN2 project activities as a researcher and member of the consortium, in coordination with other researchers from the Digital Society center. SCAN2 is a EU-funded project whose goal is to enable citizens’ access to justice using (semi)automatic techniques to simplify legal documentation and instructions to perform cross-border claims; • participate in the research activities of the DH group, in particular those related to the analysis of administrative and legal documents and the implementation of processing and classification tools for this domain

The Ideal Candidate should have:

• Master’s degree in Computer science, ICT, Computational Linguistics or related field; • very good programming skills, especially Python and/or Java; • knowledge of widely-used ML frameworks (Torch, Tensorflow); • knowledge of how to perform text-based classification tasks, esp. using large, hierarchical taxonomies • team working attitude; • good communication and relation skills; • problem-solving attitude and curiosity are welcome; • proficiency in Italian and English language (oral and written).

Additional requirements:

• Phd in ICT-related field; • experience working in research consortia or large scientific projects; • knowledge of German language
