The innovative new interdisciplinary Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND doctoral training programme 3-i ICT is offering up to 2 full-time PhD positions in Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Early-Stage researchers to carry out their PhD studies at the Centre for Information and Communications Technology Research (CITIC) of the University of A Coruña (UDC), funded by the European Commission and Xunta de Galicia. The NLP projects are 2022-C1004 and 2022-C1005 of the call: https://3i-ict.citic.udc.es/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/1stcall_PhD_projects.pdf
UDC is a leading research institution in Natural Language Processing, ranking among the top 15 universities for NLP in Europe: https://csrankings.org/#/fromyear/2016/toyear/2021/index?nlp&europe
The NLP positions are offered within the highly-active Language and Information Society research group (https://www.grupolys.org/lys_en.html), which joins together international researchers from computer science and linguistics backgrounds interested in computational linguistics and NLP. The members of the group regularly publish at top-tier NLP conferences (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, EACL, COLING, etc) and work on a variety of topics such as structured prediction, sentiment analysis, low-resource scenarios, and question answering. The group has an international atmosphere, with two doctoral students from Poland and the UK who have recently defended their Ph.D. theses, two other students from Italy and Uzbekistan who will defend them soon, and an MSCA post-doc from the United States joining the group in the coming months. Short videos describing some of the group's activities are available on its YouTube channel<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxO-tLRxaIJcQA8lUKKg5Rg>, with subtitles in English and Spanish.
3-i ICT fellows will enjoy an outstanding working environment, including safety, health and well-being protections, good work-life balance, flexible working hours, paid holidays and rest time. Fellows will receive a higher-than-average salary for the sector – 40 % higher than Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation grants and predoctoral contracts at other universities. CITIC and the UDC have an excellent social environment. Also, UDC has been granted the European Commission HRS4R ‘HR Excellence in Research Award’, in recognition of its implementation of the principles set out in the Charter and Code for Researchers. CITIC is committed to the principles of non-discrimination and gender equality in research in the recruitment of research personnel.
