Northeastern University in Boston is seeking a postdoctoral research associate in computer science at Northeastern University in Boston for an initial one-year term, extensible to three years. Salary is $82,000/year plus benefits and travel funds. Working with Prof. David Smith, the postdoc will build and evaluate optical-character recognition systems for Arabic-script books and manuscripts to support the Open Islamicate Texts Initiative. This is part of the NEH-funded project on "Automatic Collation for Diversifying Corpora: Improving Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) for Arabic-script Manuscripts" project.
The postdoc will have the opportunity to conduct other research at the intersection of digital humanities with natural language processing, computer vision, and other areas of machine learning, including, but not limited to multilingual language modeling, distant supervision, and automatic collation. Qualified applicants from computer science, information science, digital humanities, and other fields will be considered.
