2021 PLIN Day (online) on Friday May 7h: ‘Linguistics applied to Business Language in a multilingual and multicultural world’

The PLIN Day is an annual one-day thematic conference hosted by the Linguistics Research Unit of the Université catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium). The conference has established itself over the years as an international forum for the exchange of ideas among scholars and has brought together researchers from all over the world.

The 2021 PLIN Day will take place on Friday May 7th (9am-5.45pm, Belgian time) online and is devoted to “Linguistics applied to Business Language in a multilingual and multicultural world”. It offers academics, professionals, undergraduate and postgraduate students an excellent opportunity to access, share and discuss cutting-edge research in the field.

The core of the conference will consist in four keynote sessions and 20 ‘short paper’ presentations organized in 2 sessions of 2/3 parallel tracks: https://uclouvain.be/fr/instituts-recherche/ilc/plin/plinday2021-programme.html

Morning sessions

-Keynote: Geert Jacobs (Universiteit Gent): How to make free trade cool (again): A metapragmatic analysis

-Keynote: Michael Handford (Cardiff University): Corpus linguistic approaches to business English

-‘Short paper’ parallel sessions: ‘Intercultural communication’, ‘Organizational communication / Discourse analysis’

Afternoon sessions

-Keynote: Thierry Fontenelle (European Investment Bank): Translation and multilingual communication at the European Investment Bank

-Keynote: Isabelle Clerc (Université de Laval) : Comment estimer l’efficacité communicationnelle à l’écrit : Le cas de lettres adressées par le ministère de la Santé publique du Québec à des sinistrés

-‘Short paper’ parallel sessions: ‘Genre’, ‘Plain language and efficient communication’, ‘Language policy/NLP/Termnology’
