Are you interested in working within an internationally connected, world-leading research team in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) research group, which is one of the largest such groups in Europe?

We are looking for a Research Associate in machine learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods for automated analysis of online disinformation and abuse.

The primary focus of this post will be research on explainable and bias-free machine learning methods for analysis of online disinformation and online abuse, in line with the ESRC-funded project “Responsible AI for Inclusive, Democratic Societies” and the H2020 EU-funded SoBigData++ research infrastructure project.

You will carry out research on the latest advances in computational methods for analysing online abuse and disinformation, and more specifically, investigate the application of explainable and bias-free machine learning methods to these tasks. Within the role, there is scope and funding provided to disseminate via national and international conferences and workshops. Similarly, there is potential to demonstrate to industry partners, the significant impact of the research. The post, therefore, would be well suited to a researcher with excellent communication and engagement skills.

Requirements: You should hold a PhD (or have equivalent experience) in natural language processing, machine learning or computational social science, and have proven experience in machine learning/NLP methods. The ability to work effectively with both internal colleagues and external project partners is also essential. You should have experience of implementing deep learning and classical machine learning methods in Java and Python.
