========================== Job description ==========================

We are looking to hire a full-time NLP research scientist to work with the Oxford-based QNLP team in Cambridge Quantum Computing. Quantum NLP is a new field of research aiming at the design and implementation of NLP models that run on quantum hardware. The successful candidate will work with Prof Bob Coecke and Dr Dimitri Kartsaklis in this role.

This is a two-stage process, involving (1) research, design, and development of models on *classical* hardware; and (2) transportation of the models on the quantum hardware. The current position is related to the first stage, which is the design, prototyping and implementation of "quantum-friendly" NLP models on classical hardware. While the second stage of transferring the models on quantum hardware is not in the main responsibilities of the role, some form of collaboration between the successful candidate and the quantum-computing specialists of the group will be still required.

Due to the nature of the work, knowledge on tensor-based NLP approaches, such as the DisCoCat model [1] and tensor networks, as well as some familiarity with mathematical models of meaning, is in general desirable. Further, while this is not a software-engineering position, a substantial part of the work will involve contributions to the code base of the team, which is currently under development, so a key requirement is very strong programming skills (especially in Python).

Desirable skills ==========================

* Good knowledge of mathematical models of meaning and tensor-based NLP approaches.

* Published work in top-tier NLP conferences

* Familiarity with basic principles of quantum computing

* Familiarity with basic category theory
