There is an exponential growth of publicly available data coupled with several machine learning based novel techniques to analyze and aggregate the data in many fields including social media analytics, cyber-crime investigation and multimedia systems. Data analytics is an interdisciplinary area covering several aspects of the data such as the phases of collection/preparation, analysis, interpretation, etc. The information diffusion in present day social media has significant representation leading to several research groups for data-driven techniques. The relevance of multimedia systems and its dominance in present day social media has to be dealt with utmost care and precise computational approaches to extract the information and knowledge over and above the security issues. Several challenges in multimedia analytics for social media are yet to be addressed such as big data, security, heterogeneous nature of data and its dynamics. The social graph of present day social media has so much to offer towards decision making and other related dimensions.

This special issue calls for original papers describing the latest trends, developments and solutions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Social media privacy/security issues and its measures

- Recent development in cyber physical systems

- Image forgery and fake news analysis and detection

- Online tool for tracing cyber-crime in social media

- Vulnerabilities and solutions in video conferencing

- Recent advances in fake profile detection in social media

- Recent development in phishing and spam detection in social media

*Submission Guidelines*

Authors should prepare their manuscript according to the Instructions for Authors available from the Multimedia Tools and Applications website <https://springer.com/11042>. Authors should submit through the online submission site at https://www.editorialmanager.com/mtap/default.aspx and select “*SI 1209 - Recent Advances on Social Media Analytics and Multimedia Systems: Issues and Challenges*” when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process. Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the special issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least three independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process.

The special issue will consider papers extending previously published conference papers, provided the journal submission presents a significant contribution beyond the conference paper. Authors must explain in the introduction to the paper the new contribution to the field made by the submission, and the original conference publication should be cited in the text. Note that neither verbatim transfer of large parts of the conference paper nor wholesale reproduction of already published figures is acceptable.
