September 8, 2020 4pm-5:30pm (São Paulo time, GMT -3) Presenters: Vaclav Brezina and Raffaella Bottini, Lancaster University, UK Title: Data visualization in Corpus linguistics: Theory and practical tools This session will be presented in English Description of the session: Numbers and graphs are two essential modes of scientific communication, complementing, evidencing and underscoring information communicated through text. The former mode pertains to statistics, while the latter is connected with data visualization. This practical webinar provides an overview of key principles of successful scientific communication which uses statistical and visual presentation of data. Examples of useful statistical and visualization techniques will be offered, including the description and visualization of central tendencies in the data (mean and median), as well as distributions (range and interquartile range) and more complex inferential statistical models. Practical exercises will be provided to participants and Lancaster Stats Tools online (http://corpora.lancs.ac.uk/stats) will be introduced as a free online tool for statistical analysis of data and data visualization.
