I’d like to advertise the following position for a Postdoctoral Researcher, which is also available at http://postdoc.professor-x.de/ <http://postdoc.professor-x.de/>
Best, Albin —
The Data Science Chair at JMU Würzburg <https://professor-x.de/> as a member of the Center for AI and Data Science (CAIDAS <https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/caidas/home/>) offers a habilitation/group leader position for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of machine learning for natural language processing.
We are a highly interdisciplinary group of researchers led by Prof. Andreas Hotho <http://professor-x.de/staff/hotho/>. One of our main research areas is natural language processing. We focus on the development and application of novel machine learning methods, e.g. Transformer-based neural networks, and combining them with explicit, structured knowledge, e.g. in the form of knowledge graphs, in both directions: Extracting semantic and explicit knowledge from language models to enrich existing knowledge graphs and using their knowledge to improve NLP methods. Our application domains range from historical fiction over news articles to modern social media data like messages from twitch.tv. Specific goals include for instance the extraction of explicit representations for stories in fictional texts, learning language models in the medical domain to allow for content based recommendation, topic description of scholarly work for author behaviour analysis or sentiment analysis of messages in twitch.tv.
For your research, you and the group have access to a large cluster of GPU-Nodes <https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/caidas/computing-resources/>, enabling us to quickly develop and test new models even with large amounts of training data.
The position is a limited-term contract from the earliest possible date. The maximum runtime is 6 years after the Ph.D. degree with salary based on collective agreement <http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/c/t/rechner/tv-l/west?id=tv-l-2020&matrix=12> (E 13). The possibility to refine your teaching skills and work towards a habilitation or comparable qualification will be given. The acquisition of own projects grants and/or third-party funding is supported. The University aims to increase the proportion of female employees, therefore applications from qualified women are particularly welcome. Preference will be given to people with disabilities in the case of otherwise equal aptitude. The position can be filled part-time as well.
The ideal candidate has an excellent PhD in Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Mining or related areas focusing on natural language processing with the intention to stay at the University and do research. Please send your application (letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, academic records including one paper that you regard as especially noteworthy) at your earliest convenience, but no later than August 14th, to Prof. Dr. Andreas Hotho <https://professor-x.de/staff/hotho/> (dmir-jobs at uni-wuerzburg.de <mailto:dmir-jobs at uni-wuerzburg.de>). You are welcome to contact us on the same address for additional details.
