*Job Offer: R&D Engineer in Natural Language Processing*

Employer: CNRS, labeled HR Excellence in Research Place of work: Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires (IRISA), Rennes, France Contract: 12 months temporary assignment, renewable once, starting from Nov. 2019 Salary: between 28 k€ et 34 k€ gross yearly depending on experience, including social benefits Contacts: Guillaume Gravier, Pascale Sébillot (first.last at irisa.fr)

We are recruiting a R&D engineer specialized in natural language processing (NLP) in the framework of the European project READ-IT (Reading Europe Advanced Data Investigation Tool ). The project teams up researchers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with researchers in Human and Social Sciences (HSS) on the topic of exploring and exploiting large collections of testimonies (texts, images, videos) describing the experience of reading.

You will be responsible for the specification, the conception, the implementation and the validation of the NLP modules of the READ-IT platform. In a first step, you will collect and analyze the needs of the project partners. You will then conceive solutions to address those needs based on the adaptation to the application context of technology available among the partners or as standard software (Stanford NLP, CLARIN-IT, etc.). Needs encompass, for instance, named entity detection (authors, titles, dates, etc.), text mining, in particular in social networks, to automatically identify reading situations, detection and characterization of emotions or lexicometry. You will finally integrate the solutions developed to the READ-IT platform and validate them with the HSS partners using the platform.

You will join as a member of the LINKMEDIA research team of IRISA , the largest French public laboratory in the field of computer science. The LINKMEDIA team is internationally recognized for its research activities in multimedia content analysis: computer vision; audio, speech and language processing; multimedia information retrieval; machine learning and artificial intelligence. You will be integrated in a group of 5 researchers involved in the READ-IT project within which you will be given autonomy to develop your work in close interaction with project’s partners in France, the UK or The Netherlands.

To apply, you require at least a M. Sc. level or equivalent with education background in NLP and machine learning. A first working experience is preferred but not mandatory. Applications must include a CV, a motivation letter, elements demonstrating an M. Sc. Level for the domains of interest (NLP, machine learning) such as academic transcripts, as well as contact details of personalities able to provide recommendation.
