Shared task on Fine-Grained Propaganda Detection at the “Second Workshop on NLP for Internet Freedom (NLP4IF): Censorship, Disinformation, and Propaganda”, EMNLP-IJCNLP 2019

First Call for Participation

The spread of propagandistic messages relies on the use of psychological and rhetorical techniques. We have annotated a corpus of news articles with 18 techniques. The task we propose, NLP4Prop, aims at developing automatic models for the identification of such techniques in texts. We propose two subtasks:

Task 1. Given a news article, identify the spans in which propaganda has been applied and classify it according to one of 18 propaganda techniques.

Task 2. Given a news article, flag a sentence if it contains (at least) one propagandistic text fragment.

We believe the tasks would be appealing to various NLP communities, including sentiment analysis, fact-checking, argumentation mining, tagging and sequence models.

A live leaderboard will allow participants to track their progress on both tasks. All participants will be invited to submit a paper to the NLP4IF workshop.
