Python for Natural Language Processing Summer School Python4NLP 2019 Nancy, France August 26-30, 2019 https://synalp.loria.fr/python4nlp/ Co-organized by: LIFT CNRS Research Network https://gdr-lift.loria.fr/ OLKi Research Project https://olki.loria.fr/
SCOPE: Recent advances in deep learning have sparked a renewed interest in Natural Language Processing while Python has become one of the most popular programming language for NLP and deep learning applications.
The Python4NLP summer school aims to provide students with hands-on knowledge of how to collect, process, analyse and classify text using Python. It targets both computer science and humanities (in particular linguistics) students and focuses on providing them with a working knowledge of the relevant Python libraries e.g.,
- Requests, BeautifulSoup and Scrapy for retrieving and processing web pages;
- NLTK, SPacy, Stanford CoreNLP for linguistic processing;
- scipy, matplotlib and seaborn for statistical analysis and visualisation;
- scikit for classification and clustering
- Pytorch to exploit neural word and sentence representations
The school is planned as a one-week intensive program that includes lectures, invited speeches, tutored labs and social events. To facilitate learning, hands on session will be accompanied by multiple tutors. For each lab session, a skeleton program will be provided which participants will be expected to complement with their own code. The summer school offers participants a chance to build a solid understanding of the core Python techniques required to process text.
AUDIENCE: The intended audience of this summer school consists of PhD and Masters’ students, advanced undergraduate students, and industry practitioners. It is designed to be accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of Python.
STRUCTURE: A one-week intensive program that includes an invited speech and a lecture in the morning, tutored lab sessions after lunch and social events in the evening.
VENUE: Python4NLP 2019 will be held in the LORIA Research Lab located in Nancy. LORIA is a public research center and one of the biggest computer science research lab in the Lorraine Regions.
LOCATION: The city of Nancy combines the natural beauty of scenic parks and river banks with many Renaissance, Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles jewels. Nancy is easily accessible from both Paris, Strasbourg and Luxembourg.
