Postdoc Position in Transfer Learning for Natural Language Processing https://candidate.hr-manager.net/ApplicationInit.aspx?cid=119&ProjectId=181014&DepartmentId=3439&MediaId=5 <https://candidate.hr-manager.net/ApplicationInit.aspx?cid=119&ProjectId=181014&DepartmentId=3439&MediaId=5>

Location: IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark Duration: 2 years Application deadline: March 15, 2019 Contacts: Barbara Plank & Zeljko Agic

A two-year postdoctoral position is available at the Computer Science Department at the IT University of Copenhagen. The postdoc project takes place within a recently granted Amazon Research Award.

The candidate will focus on cutting-edge research on using deep learning to tackle one of the most fundamental open challenges in natural language understanding: the inability of current models to generalize under adverse conditions. This problem implies that current technology dreadfully fails when annotated data is very limited or entirely absent.

The candidate will focus on transfer learning for natural language processing using multi-task multilingual learning to scale NLP across diverse domains and languages.

Applicant requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in computer science, computational linguistics, mathematics or similar. The ideal candidate would have:

- Experience with any of the core topics of transfer learning: domain adaptation, cross-lingual and multilingual learning, multi-task learning, learning from weak supervision, semi-supervised learning, low-resource languages, meta-learning. - Background in machine learning or deep learning, and experience in natural language processing or natural language understanding.

Yet, we know there is no such thing as “the ideal candidate”. If you are not sure whether you qualify: Most likely, YOU DO. Please, do apply since our field is in need of more diversity and interdisciplinary approaches. In other words:

- If you are into computer vision, speech processing, machine translation, or another field of applied machine learning, you are still very welcome to apply. - Just as long as you are interested to contribute solving some of the fundamental problems in NLP research, we would love to see your application!

The project is supervised by associate professor Barbara Plank (https://bplank.github.io <https://bplank.github.io/>) in collaboration with associate professor Željko Agić (http://zeljkoagic.github.io <http://zeljkoagic.github.io/>). The project involves active collaboration with the Alexa AI team at the Amazon Development Center Aachen, Germany. We also collaborate with leading NLP researchers at institutes across the globe.

At the IT University you will be anchored within the Natural Language Processing Group (http://nlp.itu.dk <http://nlp.itu.dk/>) at the Computer Science Department. The group focuses on challenging problems in natural language processing, such as transfer learning for NLP, domain adaptation, multilingual and low-resource processing, algorithms for NLP, dependency parsing, and social media analytics.

Beyond the benefits of working in a vibrant group and contributing to top research, you will also enjoy living in a beautiful city, with a very competitive salary, where applicants from abroad may benefit from tax reductions.

The IT University is committed to increasing the diversity of its staff. Current members of the Computer Science department come from a diverse set of 15 countries. We strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented groups.
