Scientific panel: Corpus Linguistics, Computational Linguistics and Linguistic Engineering
Abstract submission deadline: January 8, 2020.
The Spanish Society for Applied Linguistics (AESLA) is pleased to announce that its 38th International Conference will be held next April 22-24, 2020 at the Rectorate of the University of A Coruña and Attica 21 Hotel.
It is organized by the members of MuStE, a group of scholars and researchers from the English Studies section at the Faculty of Philology in collaboration with other members from the Linguistics section and from the Specific Didactics, Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education at the University of A Coruña. Representatives of the Innova-Humanitas Campus also participate in the organization.
Within the framework of the general conference, the scientific panel of Corpus Linguistics, Computational Linguistics and Linguistic Engineering welcomes proposals including, but not limited to, the main theme for the AESLA 2020 conference: 'Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Risks'. This year's edition intends to address the relationship between linguistics and artificial intelligence from a double-edged perspective: On the one hand, it aims at promoting discussion on the role of linguistics as part of the Humanities but gradually getting more and more in contact with technical disciplines such as computing. On the other hand, it intends to analyze which opportunities are offered by this relationship and what kind of risks can be discerned.
