The Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow with expertise in NLP --- particularly social media analysis --- and an interest in environmental health to investigate the health consequences of air pollution in US cities. To be considered for this position, the candidate must be either a US national or US permanent resident.

The successful candidate will work with faculty in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and the Utah Department of Health on automatically extracting indicators of symptoms associated with air pollution from social media data.

Job Requirements:

* A completed doctoral degree (PhD, DPhil) in Computer Science or a related field (e.g. Information Science, Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics) with a focus on computational linguistics/NLP * Strong NLP programming skills in Python (including standard NLP/Machine Learning modules) * Good English skills (writing, speaking) * Ability to work independently, and within teams * Must be a US national or permanent resident * Track record of publication desirable * Interest in applying NLP methods to problems in health research

This is a one-year appointment with the expectations of annual renewals for up to three years upon satisfactory performance. The salary range will be the NIH caps: PG0: $47,484 to PG7: $58,560
