PROPOR 2018 -- 2nd Call for Demonstrations ======================================

http://inf.ufrgs.br/propor-2018/call-for-demonstrations/ <http://inf.ufrgs.br/propor-2018/call-for-demonstrations/> The International Conference on Computational Processing of Portuguese (PROPOR <http://www.inf.ufrgs.br/propor-2018>) is the main scientific conference in the area of language and speech technologies for Portuguese that is concerned with its basic and applied research issues related to this language. PROPOR 2018 will be held on September 24-26, 2018 in the city of Canela, Brazil. Canela is located in the Serra Ga˙cha <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serra_Ga%C3%BAcha> of Rio Grande do Sul <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grande_do_Sul>, Brazil <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil>. Both Canela and city neighboring Gramado <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramado> are important tourist resorts and they both draw many visitors each year. The conference will have 3 days of paper presentations, special tracks and workshops.

The PROPOR 2018 Demonstration Program Committee invites submissions for Demonstrations. Following the spirit of the Demo Sessions of previous PROPOR editions, the demonstration track aims at bringing together Academia and Industry, creating a forum where more than written or spoken descriptions of research are available. Thus, demos should allow attendees to try and test them during their presentation in a dedicated session adopting a more informal setting. Products, systems or tools are examples of acceptable demos. Both early-research prototypes and mature systems may be considered.

The areas of interest include all topics related to theoretical and applied issues of written and spoken Portuguese, but are not limited to:

* Human speech production, perception and communication

* Linguistic Description and Theory

* Natural Language Processing Tasks

* Natural Language Processing Applications

* Resources, standardization and evaluation

* Language and Speech processing in academic disciplines

* Demo submission: April 22, 2018

* Notification of acceptance: June 15, 2018

* Camera-ready version: July 1, 2018

* Conference: September 24-26, 2018

Submissions should consist of a (non-anonymous) brief description document of up to three (3) pages of content, including references. Developers must outline the main characteristics of their system/product/tool, provide sufficient details to allow its evaluation and give information on how they plan to demonstrate it. Developers are encouraged to focus their description on the relevance of the computational processing of Portuguese language in the proposed system.

Documents should be written in English, following the LNAI format <http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0> (LaTeX style <ftp://ftp.springernature.com/cs-proceeding/llncs/llncs2e.zip>, MS Word style <ftp://ftp.springernature.com/cs-proceeding/llncs/word/splnproc1703.zip>), and submitted by e-mail to propor2018-demos at googlegroups.com <mailto:propor2018-demos at googlegroups.com>.

Accepted demos and the accompanying paper will be published on the conference website.

Accepted demos will be presented on table tops at a designated demo session with an optional accompanying poster. Developers should make sure they can run their demos properly. it is the developer's duty to provide the necessary technical conditions (equipment) for the demo at the conference. Note that the local organizers will not provide any hardware or software. Free high-speed Internet access will be available.

There will be a Best Demo Award for the best presented demo.

Further details on the date and time of the demonstration session(s) will be determined and provided at a later date.

Any questions can be sent to propor2018-demos at googlegroups.com <mailto:propor2018-demos at googlegroups.com>
