organize an international conference
Web Corpora as a Language Training Tool on 23 and 24 November 2018 in Bratislava.
Web corpora now represent a very effective method of obtaining linguistic data in situations when the creation of a traditional corpus would have been very expensive or very slow. In the last two decades, the creation and use of web corpus has become a separate branch of corpus linguistics and web corpora have been created for many languages. These are often as large as traditional linguistic corpora or even larger.
As this is a relatively new field of research, the conference will enable researchers and pedagogues who either work in the field of creating web corpora or use them in their professional teaching practice or for didactic purposes in linguistic disciplines to meet and share their experience The conference will also focus on the effectiveness and usability of web corpora for the training of translators and interpreters and also of foreign language teachers. The main objective of the conference is to show the high potential of web corpora and thus contribute to scientific research in the field of corpus linguistics.
Themes for papers: Creating web corpora - obtaining linguistic data from the internet, identifying the language - filters, standardization, elimination of disturbances - deduplication - segmentation and lemmatization - morphosyntactic annotation - syntactic annotation - choice of a corpus manager Using web corpora - assessment of the quality of linguistic data and annotations - comparison of traditional and web corpora - use of parallel corpora - use of source-language and target-language corpora in the training of translators and interpreters - didactic aspects of the use of corpora in language teaching - design of teaching materials
