The Computer Science Department at Brandeis University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor, beginning Fall 2019, in the area of Computational Linguistics (CL), including but not limited to Statistical and Neural Machine Translation, Question Answering, Information Extraction, Text Summarization, Syntactic and Semantic Parsing, Dialogue Systems, and so on. Duties include the teaching of graduate and undergraduate courses in the candidate’s specialty, in addition to core CL courses in the Computer Science Department. Dissertation advising in the field of Computational Linguistics and NLP, as well as graduate and undergraduate level thesis advising, will also be expected. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or a related field, a proven publication record, and must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree by the start of the position.
A research-intensive liberal arts university, Brandeis fosters highly collaborative scientific research both within and between departments and across the sciences. The suburban campus in Waltham, MA is just 20 minutes from the bustling academic and biotechnology centers of Boston and Cambridge. The Computer Science department has 13 regular faculty members with diverse research interests. Besides all CS degrees, the department mounts the Language and Linguistics undergraduate degree as well as a vibrant nationally recognized Masters program in Computational Linguistics. The goal for this position is to enhance the research core and add diversity to the CL offerings. A secondary goal is to increase elective courses in AI and Machine Learning.
