The Zurich Center for Linguistics and the URPP Language and Space are joint centers of several departments at the University of Zurich engaged in establishing a new linguistic research environment with integrated facilities for large-volume data processing and empirical science. We work on the design and implementation of a research infrastructure that will allow linguists to collect, extract and analyze large data sets using advanced language computing technology and devices for experimental research. We are looking for an enthusiastic
*Application Integration Engineer (100% FTE)*
to enhance our team starting on 1 February 2019. The appointment is for one year with possible extension. The infrastructure is developed in close cooperation with S3IT, a unit of the University of Zurich specialized in developing and operating research IT infrastructures.
*Responsibilities* · Integrate complementary software systems to retrieve and share large amounts of language data, enable team work and present the users with a seamless experience. · Develop custom code and customize existing software to access systems via their API, develop workflows to ensure data is seamlessly transferred between applications. · Work with the software and the data in the field of linguistics and natural language processing, with some components adapted from other domains (e.g. biology, computer science).
*Qualifications* · University degree in Computer Science, Language Technology or related field · Familiarity with Unix operating systems · Proficiency in Python (more programming languages are an asset) · Understanding of modern database systems · Familiarity with natural language processing · An advantage (not obligatory): experience with shell scripting, familiarity with web technologies, especially REST APIs · Fluency in German is an asset · A dedicated software engineer, curious and eager to understand how things work, intrigued by the challenges of developing scientific infrastructure and creative in proposing solutions.
