*Research Assistant / Senior Research Assistant (PR304/16-17) *

The appointee is expected to assist with work in a research project on historical Indian English. The aim of the project is to compile a parallel corpus of historical Indian English and British English and to determine if, when and how these varieties diverged.

He/She will also assist the Project Investigatorin the research project, such as the collection, compilation and digitisation of the corpus data and overseeing student helpers. Appointeewith the requisite previous experience may also assist in the analysis of the data and the drafting of research articles. This position is an opportunity to be involved in frontline research and the appointee will have opportunities to expand theirresearch skills.

Applicants should be highly proficient in English with at least an earned Bachelor’s degree (for the position of Research Assistant)ora Master’s degree (for the position of Senior Research Assistant) in English language studies, English linguistics or a related field.Preference will be given to applicants with experience of compiling and/or analysing corpus linguistic data and with a background in the study of varieties of English. Applicants should also have very good skills in the use of word-processing software (such as Microsoft Word) and spreadsheet applications (such as Microsoft Excel), be attentive to fine detail, highly self-motivated, able to work under a tight timeline, and have good communication skills.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of eight months. Part-time appointment is negotiable. The post is available immediately, and immediate availability of the candidate is an advantage.Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.
