[Corpora-List] Three researcher positions in Computational Linguistics, IMS Stuttgart

Three researcher positions (PhD student/postdoc level) in Computational Linguistics/Semantics --------------------------------------

The research group of Theoretical Computational Linguistics at IMS, Stuttgart University [1], is looking to fill three positions in statistical semantic analysis:

* One PhD position in the Digging Into Data project “Oceanic Exchanges - Tracing

Global Information Networks in Historical Newspaper Repositories, 1840-1914” [2]

in collaboration with English Literature Studies (M. Priewe) and Visualization

(S. Koch) in Stuttgart within an international consortium

- Prerequisite: master’s degree in computational linguistics, computer science,

or related field.

- Candidates should have a background in distributional semantics and general NLP

as well as solid programming skills

- Experience with diachronic modeling and interdisciplinary collaborations,

in particular in digital humanities, is a strong plus.

* One PhD or postdoc position in a new DFG project on discourse and quotation analysis.

- Prerequisite: master’s degree (or PhD, respectively) in computer science,

computational linguistics, or related field.

- Candidates should have a strong background in machine learning and general NLP

as well as solid programming skills

- Experience with probabilistic graphical models or neural network models

is a strong plus

* One postdoc position in the TCL research group [1]

- Prerequisite: PhD in computer science, computational linguistics, or related field.

- Candidates should have a strong background in machine learning for

broadly semantics related questions

- Candidates are expected to demonstrate an ability to conduct independent research

and are invited to contribute to the research agenda of the group

- Candidates should be prepared to contribute to teaching in the BSc and

MSc programs of IMS (4 hours per term including student supervision)

- Experience with probabilistic graphical models, neural network models or

psycholinguistic modeling is a strong plus

The positions are open as of now. Payment is according to the German TV-L West pay scale (PhD students 65%-100%, postdocs 100%); see [3] for details). All three positions call for some command of German (either for research purposes (positions 1 & 2) or teaching (position 3)), or willingness to acquire it.
