*********** CALL FOR PAPERS ***********

The Text Mining and Applications (TeMA) Track of the 18th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence (EPIA 2017) will take place at the Faculdade de Engenharia do Porto, Portugal, from 5th to 8th September 2017.

This announcement contains the following information: [1] Track description; [2] Topics of interest; [3] Important dates; [4] Paper submission; [5] Awards; [6] Special Issue; [7] Track fees; [8] Organizing Committee; [9] Program Committee

[1] Track Description

The 7th edition of the EPIA track on Text Mining and Applications (TeMA 2017) will be a forum for researchers working in Human Language Technologies, i.e. Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computational Linguistics (CL), Natural Language Engineering (NLE), Text Mining (TM), Information Retrieval (IR), and related areas.

The most natural form of sharing knowledge is through textual documents. Especially on the Web, a huge amount of textual information is openly published every day, on many different topics and written in natural language, thus offering new insights and many opportunities for innovative applications of Human Language Technologies.

Following recent advances in general IA sub-fields such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML), text mining is now even more valuable as tool for bridging the gap between language theories and effective use of natural language contents, for harnessing the power of semi-structured and unstructured data, and to enable important applications in real-world heterogeneous environments. Both hidden and new knowledge can be discovered by using text mining methods, at multiple levels and in multiple dimensions, and often with high commercial value.

Authors are invited to submit their papers on any of the issues identified in section [2]. Papers will be blindly reviewed by three members of the Program Committee. Best papers will be published in the EPIA proceedings, by Springer, in the LNAI series. Additional papers with sufficiently high quality for presentation at TeMA 2017 will be published in a conference proceedings book.
