2nd International KEYSTONE Conference (IKC 2016) - Call for papers
Cluj-Napoca, Romania
8-9 September 2016

===================================================================

The Second International KEYSTONE Conference is an important place where academic and industrial researchers can meet, disseminate scientific results, share new research issues and start joint research activities. The goals of IKC 2016 are larger than those of traditional academic conferences. For this reason we will combine the usual presentation sessions (to achieve the state of the art and disseminate new outcomes) with brainstorming sessions (promoting the discussion, inter/intra domain cross fertilization and enabling new joint research activities among the partners).

The Second KEYSTONE Conference proposes 3 tracks: -Research Track -DemoTrack -Challenge Track

The proceedings will be published in a formal publication edited by LNCS.

As an event organized by a COST Action, the participation in conference does not require any registration fees.

Since large-scale data sources are usually comprised of a very large schema and billions of instances, keyword search over such datasets can suffer from several challenges mainly related to scalability, interpretation of the keyword query intended meaning. Whereas state-of-the-art keyword search techniques work well for small or medium-sized databases in a particular domain, many of them fail to scale on large heterogeneous databases.

The discovery of suitable, i.e. semantically-related data sources, is another critical issue, hindered by the lack of sufficient information on available datasets and endpoints. Browsing and searching data on such a scale is not an easy task for users. Semantic search can support the process aiming at leveraging semantics to improve the accuracy and recall of search mechanisms.

The themes of the research track contain, but are not restricted to, the following:

- Keyword search on big data - Keyword search on graph databases and the Semantic Web - Use of Linked Data - Web searching and information discovery - Development of techniques and tools for Search and Analytics - Social Web - Search-based interaction - Privacy in keyword search - Benchmarking for keyword search

The authors of the best papers will be invited to extend their work for a special issue of an important International Journal.

**Submissions

Authors can submit their papers to the Research Track in the form of:

- Regular Paper, representing completed and validated research (long papers 12 pages max, short papers 8 pages max) - Case study reports: Reports on real world cases, using the STARR (Situation, Task, Approach, Results, Reflection) template (6 pages) - Discussion Papers: papers previously published in other conferences

Only Regular Papers and Case study reports will be published in the proceedings. The publication of the papers in the proceedings is subject to the presentation in the conference by one of its authors. The proceedings will be published after the conference.

######################## ###### Demo Track ###### ########################

Website: http://www.keystone-cost.eu/ikc2016/demo.php

Keyword-based search over structured and semi-structured datasets is increasingly deployed in synergy with other technologies, particularly from the fields of semantic web, information retrieval, data mining and databases, to support real-life applications. The Demo track provides a forum for the community to explore techniques, tools and libraries that can be used in such settings. We expect the submissions to showcase the benefits and pinpoint challenges of applying techniques from the database, semantic web, data mining, natural language processing, IR and related fields, which may be developed by the authors themselves or other third party, e.g., academics or industrials, to search, explore and exploit Web data. We particularly encourage submissions that contain a form of demonstration, albeit optional.

Submissions will be evaluated on the practicality of the tool, method or technique, subject of the submission, its relevance to the community. Submissions should clearly describe the problem addressed, preferably using a use case, a demo software or illustrative example, and show how the solution (method, technique, library, etc.) can be used for its resolution.

Authors of accepted submission will be allocated 20 min (including QA and discussion) to present their work. The presentation and supplement materials such as: demonstration videos, source codes will be incorporated into github repository as well as published at the KEYSTONE website.

**Submissions

Papers submitted to this track will be should contain from 2 to 6 pages. Accepted submission will be made available online. The authors of the best papers will be asked to extend their publications up to 6 pages for their inclusion in the post-proceedings (after an approval by the track chairs).

############################# ###### Challenge Track ###### #############################

Website: http://www.keystone-cost.eu/ikc2016/challenge.php

The Challenge Track is a fully interactive session on the open issues and research challenges in development of keyword search techniques. Papers submitted to this session should answer the following questions: What open issues do you see? What unresolved keyword search problems are you facing? Any challenge in the scope of KEYSTONE project interests is welcome.

The main goal of this track is to foster joint research ideas and proposals which are needed in the KEYSTONE COST action (STSM networking, joint publications etc.) and identify interesting (i.e. open) research issues

The Challenge Track will be organized in a form of talks. Talks include 5 minute presentation with 10 minutes of feedback and in-depth discussion from the audience. Talks (presentations) must be prepared jointly by at least two partners from different countries.

**Submissions

Papers submitted to this track must be two-page abstracts describing the open problems and challenges the authors intend to address during their talk.

**Program Committee - Omar Boucelma, Aix-Marseille University, FR - Antonio Fariña, University of A Coruña, Spain - Innar Liiv, Tallinn University of Technology, EE - Marko Horvat, Polytechnics of Zagreb, Croatia - Gjorgji Madjarov, St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, MK - Laura Po, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy - Diego Seco, University of Concepción, Chile - Ranka Stanković, University of Belgrade, Serbia - José R. R. Viqueira, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain - Slavko Žitnik, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia

####################################### #### General Submission Guidelines #### #######################################

Authors should submit a paper in English, carefully checked for correct grammar and spelling. Papers have to be formatted using the Lecture Notes in Computer Science style available at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.

The publication of the paper in the proceedings is subject to the presentation in the conference by one of its authors. The proceedings will be published after the conference.

Papers should be submitted in the following link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ikc2016. When submitting a paper, please select in the "topic" field the only option corresponding to the track of the paper.
