[Corpora-List] Research scholarship in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning

Hi all,

We have a NLP/ML research position available in Instituto de Telecomunicações, Lisbon, Portugal, which may be able to cover 1 PhD student. Eligible applicants must be European citizens or legal residents.

Admission requirements: - MSc in Computer Science, Informatics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent; - an excellent academic and practical background in programming. Sound knowledge of Python and C++ is a plus; - previous experience in machine learning, deep learning, and/or natural language processing; - immediate availability to initiate the work; - good knowledge of written and spoken English; - an interview may be required.

This position is in the scope of the project “GoLocal -- From Monitoring Global Data Streams to Context-Aware Recommendations”, Ref. CMUPERI/TIC/0046/2014, funded by national and European funds through FCT/MEC (PIDDAC) and FEDER. This project is a collaboration between INESC-ID, FCT-UNL, Carnegie Mellon University, Priberam and SAPO. The goal of the project is to advance media monitoring technology to track the popularity or reputation of entities on the Web, with application to tourism and context-aware recommendation. The scope of this grant is on statistical natural language processing and machine learning.

The work will be developed at the Instituto de Telecomunicações based at the Instituto Superior Técnico, at Priberam Informática (Alameda D. Afonso Henriques, 41 - 2.º, 1000-123 Lisbon), and at Unbabel Lda (Rua Visconde de Santarém, 67-B, 1000-286 Lisbon), under the supervision of Dr. André Martins and Dra. Mariana Almeida.

Grant duration: 12 months, possibly renewed until a maximum of 48 months, upon performance assessment. The estimated beginning date is on 15th May 2016 (or soon thereafter).

Value for monthly allowance: 980 Eur, according to table values of the scholarships awarded directly by the FCT, in the country (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).
