The 10th Russian Summer School in Information Retrieval (RuSSIR 2016) will be held on August 22-26, 2016 in Saratov, Russia. The school is co- organized by the Saratov National Research State University (http://sgu.ru/en/) and the Russian Information Retrieval Evaluation Seminar (ROMIP, http://romip.ru/en/. The RuSSIR-2016 will have a special focus on semantic search, construction of knowledge repositories (dictionaries, thesauri, ontologies, semantic networks, knowledge graphs, etc.) and their applications for the Information Retrieval.

The missions of the RuSSIR school series are to enable students to learn about modern problems and methods in information retrieval and related disciplines; to stimulate scientific research and collaboration in the field; and to create an environment for informal contacts between scientists, students and industry professionals.

Additionally, our sponsors will give talks on how they apply information retrieval methods in their production tasks.

The Conference for Young Scientists in Information Retrieval will be organized within the school. Accepted full papers will be published in the Springer's Communications in Computer and Information Science series.

The school will have a versatile social program.

The target audience of the school is advanced graduate and PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, academic and industrial researchers and developers. The school will be open to about 100 qualified, motivated and pre-selected candidates. The working language of the school is English. Participation is free of charge, a limited number of accommodation grants will be provided. Similarly to the previous year, RuSSIR 2016 expects to obtain funds for supporting European students.

In particular, you need to provide the following information: - Name, residence and affiliation. - One paragraph description of what you expect to gain from attending RuSSIR 2016. - A poster paper. Poster papers are two-page documents in English that describe applicants' early-stage, ongoing or completed research/ educational projects. Research results published before and work in progress are accepted. Poster papers will be presented during poster sessions at RuSSIR 2016. - Curriculum vitae.

In the application form, you can also mention if you need a grant.


The school series started in 2007 and has developed into a renowned academic event with solid international participation. Previous schools took place in Yekaterinburg, Taganrog, Petrozavodsk, Voronezh, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Kazan, and Nizhny Novgorod. Previous RuSSIR courses were taught by many prominent IR researchers and scholars from cognate fields.


Saratov is a city in the European part of Russia. It is situated on the Volga river and is famous for a 3 km long beautiful bridge. It has a number of theaters, a circus, a conservatory and many historical sites. Volga Embankment and Kirova Avenue offer pleasant walks along the river and in the city. Saratov State University has the status of the National Research University. The SSU has a long-standing excellent educational program in Mathematics and Computer Science. The SSU programming teams have been awarded silver medals in ACM ICPC World Competitions in 2002 and 2003. The SSU team also won European programming championship in 2002. In 2006, the Saratov University students won the first prizes for both European programming championship and ACM Contest World Finals.
