============= POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE in Statistical Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning Computer Science Department

Position: ====== Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate in Statistical Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning to work with Dr Sebastian Riedel (UCL Computer Science) to develop novel methods and models for knowledge extraction from text.

The project will focus on multi-lingual knowledge base construction in the context of the EU Horizon 2020 project SUMMA ( http://summaproject.eu.carnation.arvixe.com/). Consortium partners are the BBC, Deutsche Welle, the Universities of Edinburgh and Sheffield, the Latvian Information Agency (LETA), IDIAP, QCRI and Priberam Labs.

The associate will be part of the UCL Machine Reading lab (mr.cs.ucl.ac.uk) in the Computer Science department—the top-ranked CS department in the UK according to the REF2014 assessment. The machine reading lab consists of 10 researchers in the intersection of NLP and machine learning, and is also affiliated with the Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning that brings together CS, the Gatsby unit and the Statistics department. He or she will be physically located on the UCL Bloomsbury campus in the heart of London. Several close links to relevant industry in London exists (Elsevier, BBC, Google, Microsoft, Google Deepmind), as well as to the vibrant academic NLP scene in the South England Area (Cambridge, Oxford, Sussex to name only a few).

The post is funded for two years initially.

Key Requirements: ============== The Research Associate is expected to have a PhD degree and top-tier peer-reviewed publications in statistical natural language processing and/or machine learning. We are particularly looking for experience in information extraction, compositional semantics, factorization methods and deep learning. The candidate is also expected to be capable of working under limited supervision, have strong communication and coding skills, and to work in a team.
