*VIIIth INTERNATIONAL BIANNUAL CONFERENCE“APPLIED LINGUISTICS IN RESEARCH AND EDUCATION.ALPAC REPORT – 50 YEARS AFTER DEFEAT”*
IN HONOR OF Dr. Sci. LARISSA BELIAEVA
The organising committee invites submissions for the VIIIth Biannual Conference on Applied Linguistics to be held on 24-26 November 2014, in St. Petersburg.
November 2016 is remarkable for two important dates – the 50th anniversary of ALPAC (Automatic Language Processing Advisory Committee) Report on Computational Linguistics and Automatic Language Translation which actually stopped or, at least, put brakes on further development of computational linguistics, which it overcame only in the 2000s, and the jubilee of Dr.Sci. Larissa Beliaeva, professor, RANS member, RF Honored Scientist, an outstanding worker in the field of machine translation and applied linguistics, whose way in science was all but rebuttal of ALPAC Report’s conclusions.
Our goal in organising the conference is to continue the multidisciplinary dialogue and to exchange views upon the conference traditional topics with the main focus on cooperation of fundamental studies and applied theories and methodologies in research and education.
The following topical areas have been identified as subjects: * Translation studies and Machine Translation (methods for different translations and various sources quality assessment, translator’s workstation, its components and structure, text preediting, translation postediting, machine translation systems elaboration and validation, teaching translation) * Terminology and terminography (terms translation and harmonization, methods and tools for term extraction, ontologies, models, online lexicographic resources, academic lexicography, terminologist training) * Language, text and corpus linguistics (corpus technologies, corpus building/ corpus based research and translation, corpus based research and language teaching) * Educational Linguistics and modern training environment (language worker: learner’s model, linguistic support of modern training environment, CALL, educational technologies in philology).
Participants are invited to submit abstracts for oral and post presentations addressing any of the areas identified in the conference topics.
