--------------------------------------- SMIAE 2013 ---------------------------------------

We invite you to submit a paper to The 2nd International Workshop on Speech and Multimodal Interaction in Assistive Environments (SMIAE 2013): http://www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/smiae, to be held on June, 13th/14th at the 2013 Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics: Human Language Technologies (http://naacl2013.naacl.org), on June 9th - 14th, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The SMIAE 2013 workshop will focus on all issues, applications, and development of various tools in the field of Speech and Multimodal Interaction in Assistive Environments. It will be concerned with all topics which fit within the purview of speech and multimodal communication in environments suitable for the elderly and people with physical or cognitive disabilities. Assistive environments are an application area of the research field of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). This research field promotes intelligent assistant systems for a better, healthier, and safer life in the preferred living environments through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Human-computer and human-robot interaction are key technological tools in the area of Assistive Environments, and as such the workshop will particularly aim to draw together speech and multimodal work in these areas. Moreover, both theoretical and applied computational work regarding multimodal interaction in assistive environments will be welcome at this workshop.

Important dates for the workshop are the following: --------------------------------------- 01 Mar 2013 Submission due date 29 Mar 2013 Notification of acceptance 12 Apr 2013 Camera-ready deadline 13/14 Jun 2013 Workshop

Check our website (http://www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/smiae) for further updates on the timeline of the workshop.

We encourage the submissions of long and short papers. Accepted long papers will be presented by the authors during the talk session of the workshop, while short papers will be introduced during the poster session. Both kinds of submissions will have the same reviewing process and the accepted papers will be included in the same proceedings. Submissions must conform to the official ACL 2013 style guidelines. All submitted papers will go through double-blind reviewing processes (at least three reviewers). Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference will have access to the evaluations and possible feedback provided by the reviewers who recommended the acceptance of their papers, so they can accordingly improve the final version of their papers. Check our website for further information on the submission process.

Suggested Major Areas or Tracks are the following: --------------------------------------- * Speech-enabled systems in assisted living environments * Speech in interaction with gesture in assistive environments * Multimodality in assistive environments * Multimodality for navigation of healthcare robots * Visualization, user interface design and human-robot interaction for assistive environments * Talking agents in assistive environments * Speech in assistive robotics * Speech for control and navigation * Speech for localization in assistive environments * Speech/Text-to Speech software in Web applications designed for the elderly * Assistive technologies for the elderly and people with disabilities (customizable, self-learning, easy-to-use, reliable, etc.) * Studies and empirical data in assistive environments * Data management (e-Government, e-Health) in assistive environments * Data structures and information management in assistive environments * Telecommunications and mobile devices in assistive environments * Machine learning and data mining in assistive environments * Brain-computer interface (BCI) in assistive environments * Context-sensitive assistive technologies * Personalisation in assistive technologies
