Are you currently pursuing a PhD or MSc (by research) in an area related to Machine Translation or Language Technology? Do you want to increase the impact of your work while gaining invaluable experience as part of a highly-regarded and continually growing research centre?

At the Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CNGL) in Dublin, Ireland, we have a number of internships available covering a wide range of topics in Natural Language Processing and Machine Translation. The internships are available for both basic research and more applied research projects (including development-focused work).

Topics include (but are not limited to): • MT system combination • Syntax- and semantically-enhanced SMT models • Domain adaptation for MT • Alignment • MT evaluation • Translation quality prediction • MT/TM combination and integration • Machine learning approaches to MT • Data quality estimation for MT training • Text Analytics and Visualisation • Parsing, including domain adaptation and anaphora resolution (in particular for user-generated content) • Information extraction • Sentiment extraction and text classification

Candidates are required to be registered as students in their home universities while carrying out their internship in Dublin and need to provide written confirmation of this from their home institute. Successful applicants will receive a (tax exempt) student stipend of €1,600 per month. We cover economy return airfare and student visa costs.

During the internship, the successful candidate will become part of a large NLP and MT research team based at CNGL and the NCLT at DCU, with one of the world’s largest academic MT research groups comprising over 20 researchers. The team’s location at DCU, just minutes from Dublin city centre, offers a conducive environment to research, collaboration and innovation with a wealth of amenities on campus, including restaurants, the state-of-the-art University Sports Complex and swimming pool and the Helix, one of Ireland’s most impressive arts venues with three separate auditoria.
