*Publications Programmer*

Position will have primary responsibility for developing, implementing and managing data processing systems required to coordinate and prepare publications of language resources used for human language technology research and technology development. Such resources include video, computer-readable speech, software and text data that are distributed via media and internet. Position will communicate with external data providers and internal project managers to acquire raw source material and to schedule releases; perform quality assessment of large data collections and render analyses/descriptions of their formats; create or adapt software tools to condition data to a uniform format and level of quality (e.g., eliminating corrupted data, normalizing data, etc.); validate quality control standards to published data and verify results; document initial and final data formats; review author documentation and supporting materials; create additional documentation as needed; and master and replicate publications. Position will also maintain the publications catalog system, the publications inventory, the archive of publishable and published data and the publication equipment, software and licenses. Position requires attention to detail and is responsible for managing multiple short-term projects.

Qualifications: BS/Computer Science or equivalent required; advanced study strongly preferred. Background in Information Science/ Library Science helpful. Strong programming skills in SQL and PERL or Python required and experience in C/C++ and Java preferred. Solid knowledge of XML/SGML/HTML and Unicode required; knowledge of CGI, ODBC and JDBC preferred. Scripting skills and experience with PERL and Unix shells required; Bash knowledge preferred. Experience with Unix/Linux/FreeBSD and Windows required. Must be able to perform analysis of problem reports and access reference documents to troubleshoot and resolve user issues. Must be able to work in small groups and across academic, expertise and operating system boundaries. Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills necessary. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple short-term projects with attention to detail required. Position contingent upon funding.

*Programmer Analyst*

Position will serve as web software developer for the Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC), a center within the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts and Sciences. Duties include supporting LDC's External Relations Group by monitoring, improving and updating LDC's website and intranet, which include LDC's online corpus catalog and web-based business systems. Position will code, debug and troubleshoot website structure and performance, review statistics and monitor analytics. Position will identify, design, develop, test and code necessary business system components and component specifications with the goal to refine the business process for greater efficiency and responsiveness with reference to established metrics. Features of the business systems include invoicing, sales and member tracking and reporting functions. Position provides maintenance and support for legacy applications and implements migration strategies. Position will also provide back-up support for the Publications Programmer, which may include performing quality assessments of data for release into the LDC catalog, creating documentation for finished products and mastering and replicating publications. Position is responsible for project timeline management including the development and execution of specifications and milestones.

Qualifications: BS/Computer Science or equivalent required; advanced study strongly preferred. Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript, MySQL or equivalent, and PERL or PHP required. Solid knowledge of CSS, XML, HTML, HTTP also required. Knowledge of JBoss, Tomcat, Apache and HTML5 preferred. Scripting skills and experience on UNIX shells required; Bash knowledge preferred. Experience with Linux operating system required. Knowledge of relational database design preferred. Familiarity with development of standard platform-agnostic web applications and validators strongly preferred. Experience with web-based frameworks, especially shopping cart, account management, credit card payments, electronic signature and delivery of audio and video strongly preferred. Must be able to perform analysis of tasks, system design, coding, testing, implementation, documentation, training and user support and to work in small groups and across academic, expertise and operating system boundaries. Strong verbal and written communications skills and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple short-term projects with attention to detail required. Position contingent upon funding.
