WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT
New developments in software tools for corpus construction and analysis
MOTIVATION
Those who use corpora for research, for learning and teaching languages, and for reference in their daily work, are well aware of the crucial (and sometimes frustrating) role played by software. One can spend a long time designing and compiling the perfect corpus, and yet be unable to make the best of it unless appropriate software is available for searching the corpus, exploiting the annotation and displaying results in a user-friendly way.
In this workshop several software tools are presented that we believe are of particular relevance to corpus work for translation and interpreting research, learning/teaching and practice. The guest speakers are rare examples of technically minded researchers who are not only interested in the inner workings of (their) software, but also in the way humans use that software for real purposes. The workshop will thus also provide a forum for taking stock of recent advances in the use of corpus-related software tools, as well as for addressing novel issues.
