The aims of the project are to integrate a variety of text mining tools for chemistry developed by the National Centre for Text Mining and the University of Cambridge using the text mining workflow infrastructure U-Compare http://u-compare.org/ to produce an advanced information retrieval system for Chemistry and to develop an evaluation framework for text mining in chemistry.
Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science and a good first degree (minimum 2:1) in an area relevant to the job description. You should also have excellent software engineering skills and the ability to develop algorithms and software for NLP/TM systems; the ability to produce experiments for bio-text mining applications using large data sets; excellent knowledge of text mining preferably using machine learning techniques and in particular named entity recognition; excellent knowledge of C, C++, Java, XML, Linux and Web Services. A good publication record would be an advantage.
