Position: Computational Linguist
Location: K.U.Leuven Campus Kortrijk, Belgium

Within the framework of the STEVIN project DPC (Dutch Parallel Corpus)
we are looking for a computational linguist for the development and
maintenance of a parallel corpus Dutch - French - English and the
development of a web search engine for parallel corpus exploration.

Application deadline: 31 July 2006
Commencement: 15 September 2006
Contract period: 1 year, renewable

Required skills/experience:
- Knowledge of Linux and Windows environment
- Good knowledge of text utilities and script languages: sed, awk,
Perl and similar tools
- Experience with text corpora
- Skilled in Perl or Python tool development. Java, C++ or other
programming experience is a plus.
- Experience with the development of web applications (LAMP: Linux,
Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl)
- Knowledge of XML, XPATH and XSLT
- Knowledge of character standardization (ISO, UNICODE) and text
standards (TEI, XCES)
- Knowledge of information retrieval
- Knowledge of English, basic knowledge of Dutch or French
- Good communication skills

- Knowledge of corpus alignment
- Knowledge of PoS tagging
- An interest in languages and linguistics (esp. corpus linguistics)
