Full moon trip

Date: 22-24. March Difficulty: 3 out of 3 Trip Leaders: Erling and Lluïsa

####################################################

Description:

This weekend serves up the third full moon of the year, and thus a chance of experiencing one of the most magical delights that the winter mountains have to offer – skiing at night. If the skies are clear and weather conditions are in our favour, then we’ll take the train to Upsete on Friday evening and ski to the DNT cabin Kaldavasshytta by moonlight. If the conditions are good, we might ski longer on Friday night.

We’ll use the daytime on Saturday to sleep and recuperate. On Saturday evening we’ll eat dinner together and then head out into the night once more, navigating to Hallingskeid via Vossaskavlen, from where we can take the first train back to Bergen on Sunday.

If weather conditions turn out not to be conducive to night-skiing this weekend, then the trip will go ahead as a plain-old diurnal ski trip. This trip requires that you have prior experience on fjellski and you must be comfortable skiing at night. You also need to be proficient at skiing downhill on fjellski with a rucksack, since the terrain is relatively steep on the second day, and the gradient approaches 27 degrees in several places.

Regarding organized activities

BSI Friluft is a voluntary association where neither the board nor leaders of a trip get any economic benefits from this work. As such, the board and leaders of a trip do not necessarily possess qualifications as mountain guides and do not have any financial or judicial liability of any kind. Trip leaders are merely coordinators of the activities undertaken. By Norwegian law, in a case of emergency all are required to aid the person in need according to their own qualifications, physical abilities, and evaluation of the risk involved. Participators are strongly advised to assess their own qualifications before enlisting to a trip. The trip leaders do have the right to refuse participants who do not possess the technical or physical skills necessary to participate in a trip. All activities are undertaken at the participator`s own risk and responsibility, and by enlisting to a trip the participator confirms this. A travel insurance is recommended.
