Fjellski Trip To Demmevasshytta: 15th – 16th April

####################################################

Difficulty: 3 out of 4

####################################################

Trip Leaders: Andrew and Eirin

####################################################

Description:

This weekend we will ski with fjellski from Finse, around the Hardangerjøkulen glacier to Demmevasshytta, then back to Hallingskeid.

On Saturday morning we will take the 08:14 train from Bergen to Finse. We will then ski 18km around Hardangerjøkulen to the DNT cabin Demmevasshytta (https://ut.no/hytte/10784/demmevasshytta). The cabin is described as Norway’s most inaccessible DNT cabin, perched on a steep ledge overlooking an arm of the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. In the evening we will make dinner using food we have brought ourselves. On Sunday we will ski 18km from Demmevasshytta Hallingskeid (visibility permitting, otherwise returning to Finse), catching the 16:47 train to Bergen. Time of arrival back in Bergen is 19:06.

This trip requires that you have prior experience of using fjellski due to the challenging nature of the terrain. You must be comfortable skiing downhill on fjellski since the descent to the cabin is relatively steep (approximately 30 degrees). You must also be comfortable skiing with a rucksack for 18km per day.
