Difficulty: 2 out of 4
Trip coordinators: Timo and Sofya
Description:
Friday:
We meet in front of Kode museum at 16:00 and drive to Tjoflot, the parking of Oksen. The drive is approximately 2h 30min.
We do the first 300 meters ascent of the Oksen hike with all camping gear and set camp at Vindhovden. Setting up camp and the last part of the hike might happen in the dark.
Saturday:
After a good, relaxed camping breakfast, we hike to the top of Oksen. Here, we’ll have a panorama view of the surrounding mountains and fjord at 3 sides of us. Eventually, we hike back to our camp, pack down and continue to the cars.
We then drive to Simadalen and set camp somewhere close to the starting point of the Kjeåsen hike. We might make a bonfire if the weather permits.
Sunday:
After another good breakfast, we “climb” to Kjeåsen. It’s a steep trail, but not too difficult thanks to the planks, stairs and ropes that are laid out. Once again, we have a magnificent view of the fjord below us and the mountains around us. We return the same way.
If time allows, we can do a small detour to Vøringsfossen on the way home.
Total km with height meters and estimated time:
Day 1: We hike roughly 2 km with 300 meters ascent along a steep forest trail. We have to carry all camping gear and it might be dark already. Approx. 1 hour.
Day 2: We hike the remaining 3 km and 700 meters ascent to the top of Oksen. The terrain is gradually changing to alpine. We hike the same way back all the way to the cars, 5 km and 1000 meters downhill. Approx. 5-6 hours in total.
Day 3: 1.6 km one way and 570 meters ascent+descent. Approx 2-3 hours. Possibly a short walk to Vøringsfossen afterwards.
