Tjuvhelleren and Norddalshytten – round trip Stølsheimen, September 11th to 13th 2020

Difficulty: 3 out of 4

Tour guides: Timo and Søren

Description:

Friday:

We meet at Høyteknologisenteret (by the parking close to the Bybane stop Florida) at 18:00 and drive to Steinsland in Stølsheimen.

>From Steinsland we begin the hike to Tjuvheller - a big rock which will give
us shelter for the night. The trail is somewhat ragged, and the hike will be in the dark. When we arrive at Tjuvheller, we prepare a simple dinner (Real Turmat) while enjoying the bonfire* before going to sleep.

*If it is very dry, we have to drop the bonfire, so let’s hope for rain?!?

Saturday:

After packing our stuff and enjoying a simple breakfast, we continue our hike. The terrain changes from forest to alpine during the hike.

Saturday’s destiny is the DNT cabin Norddalshytten - a cozy hut where we can relax after the hike and enjoy ourselves with a good dinner and proper Norwegian cabin atmosphere.

Sunday:

After a good night’s sleep (indoors), we have breakfast before we complete our round trip on Sunday. The last part of the hike goes south-east to Stølsvatn. We will arrive back in Bergen in the evening.

Total km with height meters and estimated time:

Day 1: The hike to Tjuvheller is 3.3 km and 220 height meters uphill. The trail is going through forest and it is a bit ragged (big stones and roots and some vegetation growing into the path). Approx. 2.5 hours walk.

Day 2: The hike to Norddalshytten is 7.5 km and 700 height meter uphill and 50 height meters downhill. Approx. 5-6 hours walk. Partly alpine and exposed terrain.

Day 3: The hike back to the car is 12 km with 350 height meters uphill and 700 height meters downhill. Approx. 6-7 hours walk. Partly alpine and exposed terrain.

Ferdaråd (compulsary trip meeting):
