The BCS Information Retrieval Specialist Group (IRSG) has been running a successful annual conference for young researchers in Information Retrieval since 1979. Originally the event was started as a BCS-IRSG Colloquium for Information Retrieval, but now has developed into a European conference to reflect the increased popularity and importance of the event. Previously the BCS-IRSG European Conference on Information Retrieval Research (ECIR) has alternated between Britain (even years) and continental Europe (odd years). From 2012, this constraint has been removed.
The BCS-IRSG Committee is interested in hearing from bidders for organizing ECIR 2014 in an EU country (including the UK). ECIR 2013 is to be held in Moscow, Russia. Recent ECIR events have been held in Barcelona, Spain (2012), Dublin, Ireland (2011), Milton Keynes, UK (2010), Toulouse, France (2009), Glasgow, UK (2008), Rome, Italy (2007), London, UK (2006), Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2005); Sunderland, UK (2004); Pisa, (2003); and Glasgow, UK, (2002).
Detailed guidelines can be found at http://csee.essex.ac.uk/staff/udo/ecir2014/ECIR2014_BID_CALL.pdf (and a costings template at http://csee.essex.ac.uk/staff/udo/ecir2014/ECIR_budget.xls).
Interested parties should submit their proposal by email to the IRSG Secretary (udo at essex.ac.uk), and a copy to irsgchair at bcs.org.uk.
Deadline for ECIR 2014 proposals: Midnight UTC Sunday 26th August 2012.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
