I'm not sure if it does get it right as "homme mord chien" is not grammatical in French as
determiners are  (most of the time) mandatory.
Reversing the translation (English to French) "man bites dog" gives 
"**l'homme morsures de chien"   (*the man dog bites-NNS  ) whereas "a man bites a dog"
gives the proper translation.
