Siemens Corporate Research (SCR), a Division of Siemens Corporation located in Princeton, NJ, has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist in the area of data/text mining, knowledge representation/reasoning, language processing and question answering.
The candidate is required to have specific expertise in the fields of knowledge representation/reasoning and language processing (NLP), and should have the capability to combine technologies in these areas with sound software engineering to build real world applications.
The candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in reasoning formalisms such as logic based frameworks (ontologies, rule-based), as well as probabilistic reasoning, Markov logic networks etc. and text mining/NLP as applied to tasks such as question answering, diagnostics, system monitoring. A track record of research and development in one or more of the following areas is required: semantic role labeling, semantic parsing, natural language interfaces, information extraction, semantic search, information retrieval and data cleaning. The ideal candidate will have a strong theoretical background, excellent oral and written communication skills, awareness of the state-of-the-art and the ability to realize the theory to provide working solutions for commercial, scientific or industrial applications.
Core responsibilities for the candidate include: - Apply reasoning and language technologies to large-scale, real-world problems - Contribute to research projects on reasoning and text mining - Perform fast prototyping, feasibility studies, specification and implementation of large scale data analytics software product components - Work with customers to understand requirements and deliver solutions - Lead teams of software engineers, consultants, interns and other research scientists to achieve project goals - Advance the state-of-the-art in the field, including generating patents and publications in top journals and conferences
The ideal candidate should posses the following essential skills and qualifications: - Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline - 5-8 years of experience (including Ph.D. study) in related fields and successful demonstration of key responsibilities - Proven ability to develop new research ideas as demonstrated by a strong publication record and early developments to the level of a working system prototype - Strong theoretical and practical background in knowledge representation and reasoning, natural language processing, question answering, AI, machine learning, text and data mining - Experience working with symbolic reasoning frameworks, natural language processing, and data mining tools - Ability to quickly prototype in Java or C++. Knowledge of Lisp or Prolog is a plus - Outstanding written and verbal communication skills - Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude - Ability to work independently as well as in large teams - Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment - Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic team
