Particular areas of active research within the ETS natural language processing group include: * Using machine learning to identify particular classes of errors in spoken and written English (especially that of non-native speakers), * Automated scoring of spoken and written test responses, * Using NLP in the creation of test materials, * Improving the robustness of NLP techniques (such as parsing and semantic analysis) to text which contains errors or infelicitous usage, and * Improving the accuracy of speech recognition on non-native spoken English.
