Unfortunately, it requires ActiveX to be turned on:

There are three primary rules for keeping your computer safe
when you're connected to the Internet:

  1. Don't run Windows.

  2. If you must run Windows, don't run IE.

  3. If you must run IE, disable ActiveX controls.

Perhaps the book is good, but I wouldn't take the risk
of enabling ActiveX.
